Setting: Tadfield Ballroom
Status: Public
Summary: Hallowe'en party. Costumes enforced.

"You really should have brought one," Aziraphale said admonishingly as he led Gabriel down the stairs towards the decorated lobby. "And watch that stair."

Earlier, while Aziraphale was still readying the final touches on his own costume (Sherlock Holmes, the clever detective, from one of his favourite novels by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. It was rather a lot of tweed), Gabriel had arrived.

Without a costume.

It was a good thing Crowley had left by this time, with only a mysterious comment about meeting the angel at the party later. Aziraphale suspected he hadn't bothered with a costume yet, and was hoping Adam wouldn't catch him.

After a few fussing moments, in which Gabriel maintained that he didn't really need a costume, as he could just take out his wings and leave it at that, and Aziraphale fussing and fretting, there was a Silence.

And then a Pop!

They both blinked at each other. Aziraphale's costume hadn't changed, but the other angel...

Gabriel was wearing a French maid outfit. One that was, as Aziraphale pointed out, eyes wide, far too short and really, were heels necessary? Then Gabriel yelped as he noticed his change in undergarments and they heard mild profanity as someone down the hall noticed the abrupt change, but Aziraphale was far too distracted calming the angel down to notice whom it could be.

It was quick to fix up Gabriel's new makeup - Adam couldn't quite manage to get the mascara on perfectly yet, and there were a few streaks as if someone mostly inexperienced had tried to do it.

"I did warn you," Aziraphale said again as they carefully navigated the next and last set of stairs, Gabriel's fingers clamped tightly on his arm.

"I didn't think I'd be forced into an apron," Gabriel said tightly.

"Well..." They entered the ballroom, and Aziraphale led Gabriel over to the nearest table. He said, "Ladies first," before he could stop himself, offering Gabriel a chair politely.

The other angel glared, a blush painting his cheeks quite fetchingly, and refused it, smoothing down the skirt. "How would I..."

"That is a very short dress, my dear," the angel said, and adjusted his pipe.

"I wonder where everyone else is."

Horus's panic abated slightly due to Destruction's efforts, enough that he stopped struggling and biting. He was still frightened, though, and glared at Destruction.

Destruction felt the bird relax and let it go. "Hmm," he said, "What have we here? I haven't seen a deity in a while." He examined the hawk thoughtfully. "Well, you're not Babylonian... don't remember if Greece had a hawk god," he murmured. "I'm sure my nephew would have mentioned if they did... so, who are you?"

When Destruction released him Horus fluttered to the back of a handy chair, hissing and screeching at his new 'attacker.' Had he listened to what Destruction said he could have answered, but he was still to frightened to think beyond getting away.

"Oh, tsk," Destruction said, still radiating calm to the frightened animal. "Look, now. If you're going to sit on that chair, you may as well do it properly. Why don't you take a form you can talk to me in, hmm?"

When the hawk just glared at him, he shook his head slowly. "You must be very old and not a little unstable to get this... hm. Egypt. Egypt had a Hawk god. What was it now, um, Hawkus, Horus!"

Destruction snapped his fingers and grinned.

Horus stopped and stared at Destruction. He knew him? How did he know him? After a few moments of careful thought he transformeed, crouching (in his costume, at least, althought it was only a speedo) on the seat of the chair. After a few more long moments he spoke. "...Who are you? How do you know me?

The tall, orange haired man smiled broadly. "We have some... family connections. My brother knows your sister, my sister knows your uncle... that kind of thing. So what's a confused deity like you doing in a place like this?"

Horus straightened up slightly in surprise and took a closer look at Destruction. Sister? He relaxed only slightly and tilted his head at Distruction. "...Don't know....."

"Hm," Destruction pursed his lips. "That's not what you'd call the normal way of things. Do you remember how you got here?"

Horus shook his head, suspicious eyes never leaving Destruction. "Just was...."

"Right, right. Well, if you're feeling claustrophobic there's a nice," he gestured vaguely, "Garden sort of thing that I wandered into by accident quite close to here."

Horus perked up slightly, hoping that he'd understood right. His voice was plaintive and hopeful. "....Outside?"

Destruction nodded patiently. "Outside. No ceilings."

Horus considered it for a moment before nodding almost happily. "Outside." He looked at Destruction pleadingly, his voice almost like a child's. "Where?"

"Follow me." Destruction nodded and made a comforting gesture as he headed towards the door.

After a moment's hesitation, Horus followed. He was desperate to get out of that room.

Destruction led him out the door and through a few corridors, trying to slow down his usual bouncing stride so bird-boy could keep up. Then he opened another door and sunlight flooded in.

"There you go." He said, pointing. "I reckon the main garden's just round the corner."

The moment Horus saw the sunlight he ran straight past Destruction and into the garden. He stood in the center of it with his head thrown back and arms held out at his sides, soaking in the reassuring warmth.

Destruction folded his arms and leaned against the doorway, chuckling. He'd never met an Egyptian god that didn't like sunlight yet. Even Anubis, in his dark domain, looked longingly at the skylit lands sometimes.

After leaving a tactful pause he ventured cautiously out of the building, not standing too close to Horus, just in case.

"So," he said. "You're a ways out of your territory."

Horus spun around in surprise, he'd almost forgotten about Destruction, but then he relaxed again. After a moment he nodded agreement to Destruction's comment and sat on the ground in the sun, a sign of trust in itself as this ensured that he couldn't move very quickly.

"...ah." After a moment Destruction sat down, crosslegged, next to Horus. "Well. Uh, how's the family?"

From: [identity profile] roadkill-god.livejournal.com
Horus shifted awkwardly, confused by all the questioning. "...They're alright...?"

"Okay, good. Good." Destruction hesitated. Maybe now was the time to leave the kid to watch the sunset and head back to the party, maybe stirr up some ruckus fun... but... well, destruction was certainly curious, and if he was avoiding his family it didn't mean he wasn't open to knowing how they were.

"Ah, so... you haven't heard from Bast or Anubis lately?"

Date: 2005-12-12 12:38 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] roadkill-god.livejournal.com
"...Not since I got here." He titled his head, watching Destruction...well, like a hawk. "You know them?"

From: [identity profile] entropyoptimism.livejournal.com
"Oh, we've met," Destruction said nonchalantly. "When I say lately, of course, I mean within the past decade or so..."

From: [identity profile] roadkill-god.livejournal.com
"When did you meet them?" He pulled his knees up to his chest and tilted his head to the other direction, eyes never leaving Destruction.
