Summary: Pollution tries to catch up

Pollution looked up at the front of the manor and let a sigh roll past his lips; it turned a dull gray and floated gently to the ground. Pollution frowned at his breath for a moment before returning his thoughts and eyes to the building. He hadn't been gone for long, only a day or so, but it felt like so much more. Ever since he had returned from his trip with War and Famine, he had been closed off from the rest of the manor, disconnected and out of the loop. He didn't know what was going on anymore, though he still felt the rumblings of something underneath the calm exterior. Perhaps there were lessons to be learned here about being antisocial and drawing away from the general happenings of the place where one lived. Maybe he had missed something big?

Slowly, his feet moved up the stone steps and through the front door. "Hello?" he called, needing someone to talk to. He wanted to find out all the latest gossip, what had been happening? What was happening? What will be happening? He needed to know it all.

"Hi," said Luna, who was leaning out of one of the windows, trying to pick one of the flowers that grew just under it. If there seemed to be a bit more dust in the air, she didn't notice it. Or at least, she didn't call notice to it.

White pulled back the part in him that wanted to reach out and wilt the flower with a burst of air pollution. "Hi," he said back. "Have I met you? ... I haven't been around much, I don't think I've met you." He moved slowly towards the window, letting his steps wander a little bit before finally standing outside of the window. One again, he drew himself back in, telling himself that it wasn't like it would matter anyway. None of him ever stook here.

"No, you haven't met me, and I haven't met you." Luna tried to stretch a little further, and finally managed to pick the flower by its sepals. She straightened up. "But now we have met each other, so I can say that it is nice to meet you. Nice to meet you." She tucked the flower behind the ear that didn't have her wand tucked behind it and smiled at White.

"Nice to meet you," Pollution echoed. "What's happening here?" he asked carefully. The energy that surrounded and soaked the mansion was still there, possibly getting stronger. It was like pressure building up behind his ears, feeling like it would pop them at any moment. Pollution looked at Luna carefully, noting the wand, which was unusual, but not unheard of. Maybe she was the source of all the pressure? He doubted it. It was definitely focused at some other part of the mansion. "I feel... magic, I suppose. What is happening?"

"Bill just breaking a curse upstairs, I think," said Luna. "He said that it was going to be difficult, so I was going to give him this Snarglemink flower for luck, but he went off before I could. Give him it, that is."

She studied the man, picking up the details that proclaimed that he wasn't human, and said, "My name is Luna. Lovegood. What's yours?"

"A curse? A curse on what?" He asked, frowning faintly. So that was the magic that he had been feeling. He hadn't realized they had attracted a curse and was curious about why, when and whom. Slowly, his eyes faded out as he thought, seeming to loose focus. Everything went a little fuzzy on the edges for a second. "Oh..." he came back to the present from his little moment of zoning when she asked his name. "Luna? I'm ... Just call me White. It's easiest."

"A curse on Loki," answered Luna simply. "Do you want this Snarglemink flower? I can get another one."

"On Loki..." A flash of a god who drank with him fluttered through White's man. He always respected a man who could drink his weight in alcohol. "Why did he have a curse on him?" he asked, ignoring the question about the Snarglemink flower. As far as he knew, and he knew pretty far, there was no such thing. She was just being silly and ridiculous.

"I'm not sure - Bill didn't tell me the specifics. I suppose Loki insulted someone somewhere." She could feel his derision, but they were his own thoughts, and she couldn't change those.

"Somehow..." Pollution mumbled, "I'm not surprised. But they're healing him? He'll be getting better, yes?" Pollution just wanted to make sure that his kind-of-friend would be ok... eventually. He was a god after all, it wouldn't do well for him to just keel over one day.

"I don't know," answered Luna truthfully. "Bill was kind of worried when he went up, even though he tried not to show it. And Bill's a very good curse-breaker. Even if he's half a werewolf now."

"I'd like for him to get better, too. He was kind of nice." Luna wasn't aware that she had just used the past tense.

"Bill?" White asked, confused again. "I have been gone a long time... Who is Bill?" The fact that this little girl felt that he was a good curse breaker lightened Pollution's spirits a little. At least someone had faith. He'd rather not lose one of his few friends if he could at all help it.

"Nice?" Pollution laughed vaguely. "I guess so. He is good company." He ignored the use of the word "was" deliberately.

"Bill's Bill. Weasley. He's - He was a cursebreaker for Gringotts before he decided to go freelance, as the Muggles say. Anathema asked me if I knew any cursebreakers, and Bill was the only one I knew," said Luna, consideringly.

"Do you know Loki well?"

Pollution shook his head. Wizards. Oh. That seemed to explain everything. "Yes..." he answered. "We were... drinking buddies... on an off..."

"I think he'll be alright. Not entirely Loki, but he'll be alright," Luna said, looking closely at Pollution. "Mr. White, you don't look so well. Do you want to sit down?"

"Young lady," White laughed fuzzily, "I think that's how I always looked... If I've ever looked well a day in my existence, it's news to me. ... I should go visit him..."

"Oh. Well, then," said Luna. "The infirmary's on the third floor, I think. Or was that the second? Well, it's not on this floor, certainly. I wouldn't visit him just yet though - Bill did say it might take them the better part of a day to break his curse."

"I'll visit him in a couple days then... hopefully he'll be feeling better by then... Thank you," he said, glancing into Luna's eyes for a moment, "for the information. I ... appreciate it."

"You're welcome, Mr. White," Luna replied. The flick of Mr. White's eyes suddenly reminded Luna of a Muggle picture she had seen once during Muggle Studies - of a once-white bird on a beach, its feathers covered in crude oil. The first piece of a mental puzzle clicked into place.
