It had been a while since he'd been in there. And, quite frankly, he probably should have gone in earlier. It could have meant better facial recognition, although you could never say that was entirely a good thing…

Still. It would be best to know who was around, and he recalled most people turned up at the bar sooner or later.

At any rate, he could talk to the bartender.

“Hey,” Shadow lifted a hand to the man who came in. He knew most of the manor residents at least by sight, if not by name, by now, and he remembered seeing this man around occasionally. “I’ll be right with you.”

He quickly finished putting away the glasses he had been drying and strolled over to where the other man stood.

“What can I get you?”

"Er…" He wasn't entirely clear on what might be available, but he was fairly sure there'd been a variety of wines available. "A glass of white wine, perhaps?"

“Sure thing,” Shadow answered. “For dry I’ve got a Sauvignon Blanc or a really sharp Riesling, if you want fruity there’s a sweeter Pinot Gris, a Chardonnay from Australia, or a Chenin Blanc, but I don’t recommend the last one.” He made a face. “It kinda tastes like ass; I was thinking I might just give the batch to the guys in the kitchen for cooking with. I’ve got a Gewurztraminer, too, if you want something with a little more zing to it.”

The Metatron looked slightly confused. "That… would make things better? I was under the impression that people tended to keep their drink and food somewhat more separate."

He turned his attention to the options available, tapping fingers against the bar. The names didn't strike a chord in his memory, but it had been rather a while. "Perhaps a glass of the Pinot Gris."

"Well, you can cook with wine too. They make sauces out of it, use it to add flavor to meats, that sort of thing." Shadow wondered if the man was human as he poured the requested drink and passed it to him.

"I'm Shadow, by the way. I don't think we've actually met," he added with a grin.

"I see." He thought for a moment. "Perhaps I could ask someone in the kitchens."

"Thank you." He examined the wine for a moment, then looked up at Shadow. "No, I don't think so. I'm the Metatron." He straightened up a bit more. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Shadow. If you don't mind my asking, what brings you here?"

Well, that answered the human question, anyway. Shadow gave the man- angel- an arched-eyebrow look of surprise and then immediately did his best to cover it up.

"Nice to meet you too," he managed. "I don't mind, but really I'm not sure I've got much of an answer to give. I just showed up here one day, I guess. I was traveling. I do know some of the other residents," he added. "Bast and Loki, for two. But I didn't know they were here until I arrived."

The Metatron noticed the surprised look, though didn't comment, instead wondering slightly whether perhaps people weren't quite aware of who else was in the Manor. He'd have to ask if there was some kind of policy with regards to who knew whose identity, perhaps.

"I… see." He raised the glass, then stopped. "You knew… Bast and Loki? Prior to coming here?" He put the glass down slowly. "Might I ask how?"
