Summary: Sirius pays Remus a visit on New Year's Eve
Sirius sauntered into the room only a little bit wobbily. He couldn't help but glance up as he passed the doorframe between the bar and the lobby, but the mistletoe was gone. Whether that was a good thing or a bad one he didn't know. He smiled when he saw Remus working away at the desk, and approached him, patting the bottle of champagne that was hidden under his jacket.
"Happy New Year's!" he shouted once he was near Remus. He pointed in Remus' direction accusingly. "You, sir, are missing out. S'an open bar in there, y'know, free drinks and all. That, whatshisname, Wensley-something I think, he's a real great guy."
((Just answer when you can, hon, no worries. :D ))

Date: 2007-01-25 05:50 am (UTC)"Happy New Year's, Sirius. And, while it may in fact be an open bar, I am also at work... working." He gestured to the paperwork before him, a smile on his face despite his severe tone. "The other secretary's on maternity leave, as well you know.
"Now, as to missing out, is that a bottle under your jacket or are you just very happy to see me? And malformed?"

Date: 2007-01-25 06:13 am (UTC)He pouted as Remus pointed out the bottle hidden under his jacket. "That," he announced. "Was intend...inten..it was a surprise. You're a ruiner of surprises, Moony, I hope you're happy."
He leaned in close to Remus' ear. "'sides," he added with a wink, "I'll have you know nothing 'bout me is malformed." It had taken a lot of effort to get that out properly, but it was worth it.

Date: 2007-01-25 07:33 am (UTC)He gave himself a shake. "But we don't have glasses for the champagne. And I do know nothing about you is malformed, you certainly streaked enough at Hogwarts for all of the students to know it. I bet their kids are even told today, 'Sirius Black had that mole by his...'" Snickering, he left off, eyeing the exact place where said mole rested.
"Ah, and yes, I am so very busy. As you can see, the lineup stretches all the way to Tadfield itself... Go on, Pads, with your champagne, and take a number."
no subject
Date: 2007-01-25 07:41 am (UTC)It was true, he hadn't bothered to nick any glasses from the bar. Wensley had seemed like too nice a chap to pull that on. "We can transfissure them up. Figure. Maybe you should do it, think I might, might splinch myself or somethin'." He didn't think it was possible to splinch yourself transfiguring glasses, but he couldn't remember.
He pouted even more at Remus. Sirius was a very skilled pouter. "Here I went an' got champagne just for you, an' it wasn't easy I'llhaveyouknow. Seems to me the least you could do is be fun."
no subject
Date: 2007-01-25 08:14 am (UTC)"Sirius, it is the law of the universe that it is impossible to be fun with drunk... you... without being drunk. Otherwise how would one ever cope with having phrases like 'transsfissure'? And as I'm not driving and probably not getting any more work done tonight anyway... or flying, remember the motorbike?" His thin mouth creased in a rare smile, as the champagne bubbled gaily down his fingers. "Do you have a toast in mind?"
no subject
Date: 2007-01-25 08:32 am (UTC)He nodded solemnly. "A toast. To last year not being half bad and this year even better and, and t' you for being the best mate anyone ever, ever." He decided this required a sort of quick hug-slash-snuggle, so he threw his arm over Remus' shoulders.

Date: 2007-01-25 08:44 am (UTC)Remus thought of it, bottle in hand: the first shock of seeing Sirius, the things they'd seen the seasons, the celebrations they'd joined in, the idyll they'd had, the full moons they'd shared...
...and the kiss under the mistletoe.
"Fuck," he said aloud, and quickly drank the bubbly liquid, relishing the expensive dry taste and half-choking as bubbles came up his nose.
no subject
Date: 2007-01-25 06:38 pm (UTC)He continued laughing at Remus' reaction to the champagne. "Much 's I respect you for drinking out the bottle, think we need glasses mate."
no subject
Date: 2007-01-26 08:12 am (UTC)"Two glasses, a la Remus. Drink up, Sirius," he said, pouring the champagne into the quickly accio'ed flutes. "We'll toast it at the same time. To growing old immaturely?"
no subject
Date: 2007-01-26 08:45 am (UTC)He took his flute eagerly. "We're already there, mate!" he shouted, feeling suddenly very happy. "T'another year of you kicking me an' stealing the covers all night."
no subject
Date: 2007-01-26 09:06 am (UTC)It was good champagne. Taking the bottle, he refilled his flute, and topped up the proffered one Sirius held slightly off-centre.
no subject
Date: 2007-01-26 09:18 am (UTC)He eagerly accepted the drink, and then happened to check his watch. "Almost midnight. Justa. Just a few minutes, I think." He smiled warmly and openly at his friend. "What's your new year's reso. bugger. revolution?"
no subject
Date: 2007-01-26 09:23 am (UTC)"Pardon? Oh, a resolution..." Trailing off, Remus thought for a moment. To take better care of Sirius. "To be a little more wild, I believe: have a little more fun. And apparently to stop kicking the person whom I sleep with. Sorry, Pads." He drank another full flute, and poured himself a next glass slightly sloppily.
"And yours?"
no subject
Date: 2007-01-26 09:37 am (UTC)He set the glass down for a second, seemingly having been overtaken by a more maudlin mood. "I dunno. Make sure, make sure you keep yours I suppose. What--" he turned to catch his eye, "what do you want, Moony?"
no subject
Date: 2007-01-26 09:48 am (UTC)The way Sirius was looking at him, in that roguish manner, outwardly blustering and flirting but with... utterly serious tones underneath. Their gaze caught and held, the memory of mistletoe blurred in front of his gaze, and it was so close Remus almost said it, caught off-guard as he was.
"I want to make you happy. With this life." He said it simply, the alcohol speaking more than himself. "'S what I want. It's like the snake that eats its own tail. You want me to be happy and in order for me to be happy you have to be happy."
He laughed, breaking the spell. "Or we're a pair of soppy bastards with too much champagne - one more please? - running close to midnight. Come on, Sirius, what would you want? What would make you happy?"
no subject
Date: 2007-01-27 04:59 am (UTC)Then he smiled and raised his glass. "Soppy bastards. S'us."
The question gave him some pause, but not because he had to think of the answer. "If, if I could go back," he said, not quite meeting Remus' eyes, "an' fix everything. That'd be nice." He looked up and smiled sadly. "But asides from that, I'm okay. Got you t'look after me, don't I? Cheers, mate."
He drained the glass, and as he finished it, he could hear counting coming from the over in the bar. I'm going to kiss him at midnight, he decided with sudden clarity, putting the empty glass down on the desk and smiling brilliantly. Everything seemed better now that he'd decided that within ten seconds, he'd be kissing Remus.
9, 8, 7...
Sirius had never been the most patient of men. It was hardly surprising when he only made it to 6.

Date: 2007-01-31 06:51 pm (UTC)And it wasn't, actually, as if they hadn't kissed before. This time Sirius was leading the dance, tongue and mouth and- he was doing an awfully good job of it, wasn't he? Remus' eyes slid closed just as the first bell went for midnight.
It was a wonderful, if probably a very bad idea in theory and practise, way to spend a New Year.
Aww <333 ty
Date: 2007-01-31 07:26 pm (UTC)The kiss was admittedly somewhat fumbling, although better than most people could do after the amount Sirius had had to drink. But it was still good, of course it was good, it was with Remus. And that thought alone was enough to scare him into breaking away.
It had been some time since he'd actually gone looking for someone new, and the idea that he could just be with Remus was more appealing than it should have been. But even if a small part of him was terrified, he still felt fantastic, better than he had in years and years, and he gave Remus what was certainly the most genuine smile he'd given anyone since long before Azkaban.
"Happ' New Year, Moony."

Date: 2007-02-01 09:05 am (UTC)He ducked his head, schoolboy shy, under Sirius' grin, and slid his gaze away. "Heck of a start to the new year, Pads," Remus said finally, aware he was the only one over forty still saying 'Heck'. It came from being a professor, he supposed, no matter how temporary that job had been. "Is this..." -he gestured to the kissing- "...going to be a habit? It's been secretly declared 2002, the Year of the Kissing, hasn't it?"
no subject
Date: 2007-02-01 08:22 pm (UTC)He laughed. "Could be. Twice s'not a habit, though." He punctuated the statement with a kiss on the tip of Remus' nose, and then another peck on the lips. "Hmm. How many d'ya think s'a habit?" He grinned rakishly, or at least what he currently thought rakish might look like.
"Wouldn' mind. You, you're all, a really good kisser. And stuff."

Date: 2007-02-05 08:48 am (UTC)That is... he was at least going to provide the excuse of alcohol, in the morning, if Sirius pretended he couldn't remember snogging his best friend and enjoying it.
Remus was nothing if not practical.
Setting the drink down, the pleasant buzz growing with the dissipating din in his mouth, he stood close to Sirius and crossed his arms a little, stubborn. "Padfoot."
The truth - the truth was he hadn't been kissed in a while, and Sirius Black, for all his years in prison and in death, could still snog like a teenage heartthrob. Remus had been shagged, yes, but never truly kissed. It was a reversal he had missed, after Tonks' gentleness.
"Invite me upstairs."
no subject
Date: 2007-02-05 08:55 am (UTC)He grinned. "Not even gonna buy me dinner firsht?" He grabbed Remus by the wrist and began to half-tug him somewhat wobbily in the direction of the staircase. Once he'd stepped onto the first stair, but before Remus had a chance to, he helped pull him up in order to pull him into another kiss. "Rude."

Date: 2007-02-05 09:09 am (UTC)"Actually, you pay for my dinner anyway," he teased, letting go of his grip on Remus and taking the stairs slowly backwards with a smirk spreading across his face. "I s'pose I owe you, don't I?"
And there it was, even if he hadn't quite laid it out-- he was really going to do this. It would've been nice to have blamed the alcohol, but the rush of kissing Remus, kissing him several times now, seemed to have cleared his head for now and he felt terribly, blindingly, sober. He couldn't help but laugh, only a bit self-consciously, but the smile remained the same.

Date: 2007-02-06 04:11 am (UTC)The champagne was lending an extra giddiness to his steps, even as his brain continued to interrupt in an entirely too proper manner informing him that this was a very Bad Idea, repeating it as before but the less sensible part of him, the part of him that had lips a little swollen from snogging and a bottle of champagne in its gaily gesturing hand, was explaining all the good parts of why this was a very Good Idea in the short term. The drunk portion of his brain also seemed to have his body and mouth under control.
The jury of which verdict would be correct was out.
