Place: The Library
Status: Private (Mictain, Loki, Uriel) -- Complete
Summary: Making sure of a thing or two.

Mictain didn’t like it. He didn’t like it one bit. The god was known for tricking and lying and cheating, so he suspected he had a fairly good reason to suspect his motivations.

Normally it wouldn’t have bothered him, no matter what Loki was planning to do – he might have even found it amusing, especially if the target was one of the Heavenly Host. However, the one he was currently messing with was Uriel. And, because at the moment anything involving Uriel involved her baby as well, he wouldn’t let the god do anything like the things he was so known for.

Mictain didn’t know why he cared, really. Well, other than that the child was indeed a perfect excuse to laugh at the whole Host of Heaven and tell them to fuck off. If an archangel had a child with a Horseman, what was left of their standards? And he had Fallen for loving another angel. Well, let’s see how they would react once the brat was born. They could ignore him all they wanted, but they hardly could ignore a half-angel bastard being born to Uriel, could they?

Perhaps, he thought, he just had too little to do. He no more had to protect Raphael, and even Neville had wandered off soon after they’d come to the Manor. He suspected the imp was still around somewhere, but apparently he no more needed Mictain’s protection now that he was under Adam’s influence. Maybe he was just too used to protecting someone, and the as-of-yet unborn child was the best candidate around.

Nevertheless, the one Uriel spent most time with was Loki. And Mictain was determined to find out just what the god was after.

With this in mind, he stalked followed the god around for a moment. And then, when he was sure the god was in the library with nobody else around, he decided it was time for a confrontation.

Uriel sighed, frustrated. "I never told you to do either of those things," she said wearily. For a moment she wondered whether this was just a Norse thing, but then remembered Pestilence facing Mictain despite the quite obvious threat. Thus, she asked, "Are you males all so impossible?"

Loki thought about that. He wasn't entirely sure he understood the question.

"I assure you I'm very much the same when I'm female."

"Does that count, though?" asked Uriel, frowning. "You're probably mentally male, no matter what you are physically, after all..." She then frowned even more. "I wonder what that makes me, though," she then said. "I've been genderless for almost all my existence, but at least now I very much think of myself as female."

"I think of myself as female when I'm female," Loki pointed out. He still didn't get what Uriel was aiming at. He'd thought that gender roles were out this century.

Well, they weren't really among the humans, but he thought they were for Judeo-Christian gods. Even if they didn't call themselves gods.

"You do?" Uriel blinked. "Well, that's odd. I mean, even when I was making a male effort, I didn't really think of myself as male... And if somebody like Mictain suddenly made a female effort, it would probably be quite difficult to think of them as female. I mean, physically it's clear, of course, and I'd call them her and such, but I don't think the person's true character changes. And Mictain's mindset is definitely male as far as I can tell."

"But why would having a different gender change someone's character?" Loki asked. "That's implying that males and females automatically have different completely different personalities. Like ... if a man is clever, you turn him female and he must be stupid?"

This conversation was confusing him. Either his illness was affecting his brain now, or he'd missed a vital part of what Uriel was saying. Probably the later, Loki hoped. Yes, his attention must have slipped again.

"I'm not saying it changes your character," Uriel sighed. That was exactly the opposite of what she was trying to say. "What I mean is -- oh, forget it." Logic had always been one of her weakest points. "I lost the point somewhere there..."

"Oh good, because I'm not sure I ever got it."

Loki was usually good with logic, especially with twisting it.

"Ah, well. Sounds like we'd best just end this conversation now," Uriel said, grinning. Then, she turned serious, and sighed. "Just... please try not to die," she said quietly.

"That's not hard," Loki promised. "I usually do that anyway."

Well, Uriel might expect that statement to include taking his medicines, but LOki decided to interpret it differently.

"Now where's that book I came for?" Loki picked it up and hurried back to his room with it. The library was obviously more dangerous than he'd thought.

For a moment, Uriel looked after Loki. Then, she sighed, and returned to her own room.

Every passing day seemed to make things even more confusing -- and worrying.
