Fuschia?

Well, that wasn't the primary color they had hoped for. Pepper sighed atop the ladder and fastened another corner with the staple gun. She was trying to go as fast as she could, but with how she had to keep moving the ladder every few staples, it was going slower than she'd hoped.

She'd seen what Wensley had prepared, though. It was gorgeous and likely delicious enough for everyone to end up wishing that he'd made another. He'd had to smack her hand away from it to keep her from trying any. Old habits died harder for Them.

She looked down at Wensley, grumbling, "Is this really all we could come up with? Looks like the decorations for that Princess Bash you had to babysit for at the Dawson's a few years back." Okay, it wasn't that bad. They'd managed a little blue and green in certain places. And it was decidedly lacking in screaming ten-year-olds in cheap lipstick and rouge. But, really.

She leaned back on the ladder, glancing out to where John and Azirphale (she was so proud of herself for finally figuring out how to pronounce his name right) stood. "How much time do you think we have out there?" she shout-whispered to them. "Roughly?"

If the Doctor had known what Uriel was thinking, he probably would have left the room to sit in the TARDIS for a while and think. ('A while' translates as 'a few weeks on a planet far, far away.')

However, he didn't know, so he didn't start questioning himself. He just let his grin grow wider and pounced on the bowl of jelly babies, hugging the bowl close.

"Uriel, you are fantastic," he said earnestly as he set about devouring the sweets. "Absolutely fantastic."

Uriel giggled again. "Why, thank you," she said. "You're not too bad yourself." And he wasn't, really. He was kind, funny, and helpful. And, she had to admit, quite good-looking. (She didn't even blush while thinking this. She was quite proud of herself.)

"How have you settled into the Manor?" she asked, scanning the table for something she'd like. "Well, I hope?"

The Doctor winked at her and grinned like he'd seen Casanova grin once. "Thank you," he said. "I like this suit. Brings out my eyes." He did a mock-twirl, but not too fast in case he dropped the jelly babies. (Maybe having a bowl of jelly babies at Manor parties was becoming tradition for him.)

"I've settled in very well. I think." He put his head on one side and shrugged. "The TARDIS likes it here anyway."

Uriel grinned. "That's vanity," she said teasingly. "Vanity is a sin. I should change the colour of your suit just to lead you away from sin. Or maybe I should change the colour of your eyes?" Her own eyes twinkled mischievously.

"That's nice to hear," she then said. "Have you made any friends, yet?"

"Oh, sin isn't too bad," the Doctor said, eyes glittering teasingly. "It's all in moderation, Uriel my dear."

He gasped in mock-horror, hands flying to his chest. "Not the suit, please!" he 'pleaded'. "I like this suit! It's my favourite! You can change my eyes, though," he said, as if changing the colour of his irises was a simple, everyday thing. "I always wondered what this body would look like with blue eyes."

He laughed. "I don't know if they'd count me as friends," he chuckled, "I mostly seemed to be panicking about my key. But Mickey - that's Mictain, by the way - seems to be able to stand me, and Ruby's quite nice (if a bit violent) and Adam and his friends are fun, especially Pepper and Cheese, and Johnny's got some interesting stories, and - "

He stopped and tried to look at his mouth. "Wow," he said suddenly. "That's a lot of people."

"I don't think I can make it permanent," Uriel said with a grin, "but for the day, you can have blue eyes." With a bit of concentration, she made this happen. Then, she frowned. "It doesn't look as good on you as the original."

As the Doctor listed his friends, however, she froze momentarily. "Mictain?" she echoed, alerted, but then forced herself to calm down. This wasn't the time for that. "I see... But, really, Cheese? I don't think there's anybody named that in the Manor. What is their true name?"

"Really?" the Doctor looked a bit disappointed. "Ah well. At least that means I won't be saying my eyes don't suit me."

He noticed Uriel's slight moment of - panic? Really? - but seen as she was trying to let it slide so did he. "Yes, Mictain. Mickey boy. Well, Mickey demon, actually, but that just sounds strange. Cheese is Wensleydale. It was a toss-up between calling him Cheese, Wallace, or Grommet." He grinned. "No, you don't need to understand. My mind works in odd ways."

"Nice to know he has found himself a new friend," Uriel muttered. "Even though I find it hard to believe he would let anybody call him Mickey." And, in a way, she was glad. She just hoped Mictain wouldn't hurt the Doctor in some way. The alien was too nice to deserve that.

"Well, then I won't even try to understand," she then said in response to his last comment. "Most probably I wouldn't understand even if you tried to explain it to me." She grinned in something resembling embarrassment. "My mind works in odd ways too, but rarely in the same odd ways as anybody else's."

The Doctor winked again. "I have my ways," he said. "Charismatic, that's me. People just can't say no."

He smiled and hugged her again (this time hampered by her stomach and by his jelly babies). "Remember that you are an individual," he said grandly, "just like everybody else. I got that off've a magnet."

Uriel flushed a bit again, giggling. "Hugs don't really work right now, I see," she said. "I do believe I'm an individual. I doubt anybody else could be as messed up as I am." She grinned at him, then snatched a few jelly babies from his bowl.

The Doctor smiled a little apologetically. "Sorry," he said. "But your jelly babies really are wonderful. Tell you what," he bit the head off a red one, "I'll make it up to you later. Hugs galore."

He laughed. "Very individualistic" he said, wagging a finger. "An angel who steals her own jelly babies."

From: [identity profile] bipolar-uriel.livejournal.com
"Oh, but I don't have to steal them, necessarily." Uriel grinned mischievously. "See?" She put her hands next to each other, forming a cup with them. And, out of thin air, jelly babies started to pour into the cup. "It's just more fun to steal them from your bowl." With this said, she dropped the jelly babies in her hands into the said bowl, only to snatch a few more.

Looking at a pink crawling baby, she raised an eyebrow. "I hope you won't think my baby is edible, too," she said before cruelly biting the jelly baby's head off.

The Doctor sighed wistfully. "If I could conjure jelly babies..." he said. "Well, I'd probably put Basset's out of business, but hey. The world needs less big companies."

He studied a purple one with a big heart on its chest. "Nah," he said. "I like children, but I could never eat a whole one."

"But if you could conjure jelly babies," Uriel said, "then you would have no reason to hang around me. And then I would be all miserable and lonely and wither away and die." She did her best impression of being miserable. Although she often was quite talented at being miserable, she wasn't managing very well now. She was too happy for that.

"Oh, don't say that," she said, shivering. "It's not too funny when I happen to know that some of the Manor inhabitants would probably be happy to eat a whole child." A quick glance around, however, reassured her that none of the more unpleasant demons was present.

"Aw, that's not true," the Doctor said, grinning at Uriel's antics. Her attempting-to-be-miserable face rather reminded him of Rose's when she tried to look pathetic to win an argument. "If you couldn't conjure jelly babies I'd have you conjure fish and chips instead." He winked, hugely and obviously. "And if you couldn't do either of those, I'm sure your wit and charm would manage to get me to stay."

He chuckled - well, snickered - at Uriel's remark regarding children. "I'm sorry, I just always find that funny. Same with why you should never leave painkillers near a birdcage."

"My wit and charm?" Uriel grinned. "And here I was thinking it's because I'm the only one who will be able to stand you around for a longer period of time. After all, I'm the only one around here who is even more crazy than you are."

She frowned then, puzzled. "Well, why should you never leave them near a birdcage?" she asked. "I don't understand."

The Doctor returned her smile. "That too," he said.

With a triumphant grin, he said grandly, "Because the parrots eat 'em all!"

((OOC: If you do not understand the joke, say the last four words quickly out loud. There you go.))

Uriel looked at te Doctor for a while, waiting to hear the point of what apparently was a joke. When there was none given, she asked, "I'm sorry, but what exactly is so fun about that?"

The Doctor's expression did not so much fall as pound itself against the nearest available wall or desk. "Never mind," he said, and made a note to remember Uriel's slightly limited knowledge of human things.

Uriel was not perhaps an expert in social relationships, but she did know a few things. And now, she knew the Doctor was not happy. "I'm sorry I'm so stupid," she said apologetically. "I just haven't been on Earth very much."

From: [identity profile] tardis-lord.livejournal.com
"You're not stupid," the Doctor said hurrdiely, "you just don't know much about humans. Well, human culture, really. Human films and music."

He noticed he was well on the way to babbling and stopped. He pursed his lips thoughtfully and ate a few more jelly babies. "Maybe I can show you, if you want," he said. "We can arrange it to be a group thing. Everyone at the Manor. I'll take you in the TARDIS to see films and plays, and then everyone will be happy."

He stopped. He blinked. He smiled widely.

"Now there's an idea worth investigating!"

Uriel smiled. "Well, that does sound interesting," she said. "Are you sure you can fit everyone there, though? Even though some probably wouldn't attend, there are still quite a lot of people around here, as you can see." She gestured at the numerous people surrounding them.

"Oh, I'm sure they'll fit," the Doctor said, his mind already sorting through the details at a speed that would put the Millennium Falcon to shame. "Time Lord science. Bigger on the inside than on the outside."

"If you say so," Uriel said, shrugging. "I never understood much about science of any kind. There's just too much mathematics involved for me to get any of it. It's quite fortunate, therefore, that I'm only really expected to know about arts." She smiled. "My mathematical skills are pretty much inexistent."
