From her reactions, however, I concluded she'd gone to him in a -- female, I presume -- disguise for 'one last time' and got pregnant by accident. She as good as confirmed this -- and she simply can't lie. It's just plain against her nature."

He ran a clawed hand through his hair, thinking. "So, if we assume she was telling the truth -- which I do believe -- Pestilence left her. However, I find that very unlikely, given his behaviour the last time I met him. Either something happened between them that made him leave her -- or there is a third person involved somewhere along the line."
