The transformation from Sirius to Padfoot always surprised him with its fluidity, its ease. There was even the slightest twinge of jealousy at the happy bound, something that Remus hated himself for.
Remus swallowed and hefted the basket higher, squinting at Padfoot in the sunshine. "There? Very well, you big puppy." He set the basket down there, unravelled the blankets and spread them, checkered red-and-white on bright green grass.
He set out some sandwiches, rummaging through the picnic basket, and finally retrieved a slightly worn tennis ball. The werewolf smiled quietly.
"Padfoot!" he shouted to the racing animal, and threw the ball hard, out into the blue sky.

They'd eat in a minute. There was no rush.
