Time: July 6 2000, morning
Place: Front desk?
Status: Public
Summary: Pepper arrives
She couldn't believe she had come back. She had promised herself that she wasn't going back to Tadfield. It didn't seem like a good idea, not where she had come from. Not where it looked like she was going. She'd spent two summers away from home, working closer to uni to earn her money. She liked having the independence.
It wasn't that she didn't want to see Them. But... things were different now, weren't they?
So she hadn't told them that she was back in town. If they didn't find out (a long shot, she knew), that was fine with her. Well, maybe that wasn't true either. She couldn't deny that every blond head she'd come across made her look twice, every kid with dirt on his knees made her blink, every person wearing glasses suddenly had a very different voice.
She needed a job, though. And she didn't want to work some place where lots of people in the town frequented. Otherwise she'd be plagued with questions and hugs and shepard's pies until she screamed. So somewhere like a hotel or something would be good probably. The Manor was hiring... everything, it looked like. Well, she could do whatever they needed really. Maybe they could use a karate instructor? She wouldn't mind gardening either. Anything would do, so long as she was occupied most of the time.
There was... something... crashed out front. It smelled like molten metal and smoke and... something she thought she should recognize. Okay, not quite what she was expecting. But she could figure it all out as she went along.
The ad was smuging her fingers with newspaper ink, and she hoped that no one noticed because it didn't look very professional. She stepped inside. Things seemed quiet, so she started talking because that's what she did when she was nervous. "Allo? Anyone here? Sorry to bother, but I'm here about the ad in the paper, and I was wondering if you were still hirin'..."
