Summary: Adam takes down the Christmas tree

With the ever-so-slightly melancholy air of one who knows the holidays are over, Adam returned to the lobby with his cardboard box and began to take everything off the Manor's Christmas tree. All the ornaments, garlands, lights, and decorations came down. When the tree was otherwise empty, he took his angel and placed it delicately atop everything else in the box. But the way he did it, the care he took, almost seemed to be a peculiar blessing on all the items therein, and perhaps it was.

The first part of the job done, Adam began walking around returning items like a young, unbearded, and tardy Santa Claus.

Adam found Pollution and Famine first - together, of course. He handed the pop ring garland, tin cans, and wrappers back to Pollution. He hadn't thrown out a single piece of it, knowing how much it meant to the horseman, though it was so much trash to everyone else. To Famine he returned the symbols of the riders and with a knowing smile he left them.

Next he found Mr. Wednesday and returned the golden apple, spinning wheel, falcon feather, bough of mistletoe, sword, boot, and the figures of Mjollnir and Odin. After a mutually satisfactory conversation wherein Adam expressed appreciation for the multi-cultural flavour that Wednesday's offerings brought to the project and Wednesday explained the symbolism behind each piece to an impressed Adam, they parted and Adam headed on.

He ran across Crowley in a corridor and held the apple out. Crowley snatched it, crammed it in a pocket, and stalked off without a word. Adam grinned.

The next person he found was John. Taking special care with the amulet, he returned it safely into the care of the occultist who accepted it with an odd expression and gruff thanks.

Ligur was next and he appeared to be rather glad to have the little tentacle monster back.

Finding Remus in his room, Adam returned the toy soldier and gave his most heartfelt appreciation for the books. He had followed the wizard's intention and distributed the other three to his friends. Wensley was best pleased with his book on photography, as were Brian for the book on Quidditch and Pepper for the more violent book on Quidditch, but Adam cherished his book on Magical Creatures and took the opportunity to say so.

When he ran into Michael, he returned all the little angel figurines. Adam hadn't tried to separate the two that were still holding hands. He handed those to the archangel last and made a swift exit.

He found Death and Raphael in short succession handing back the hat and rod of Asclepius. Both stared at their decorations rather forlornly so Adam didn't stay to chat.

War and Destruction were out on the lawn and seemed happy to have their weapons back. And the Marquis was at his desk, which made it easy to return the candy canes, handkerchiefs, and the little figurine of the Beast. Adam figured there was a story behind that, but thought that it wouldn't be appropriate to ask about it now.

To Uriel he returned the painted icons of the Holy Family and the angels and Newt and Anathema took back all of their family ornaments, which left only Adam's things in the box.

Remembering to ask the gardener to return the tree to the grounds, Adam headed back upstairs to find a place to store his decorations. He hoped that there would be another Christmas in which to use them.
