While Kit couldn't say she wasn't surprised by the comment - even John seemed to be - it didn't come entirely unexpectedly. These issues had been hanging between them for the past few days, clouds of dust stirred up from years past, as perhaps they rightly should be; she didn't know how either of them would move on without dragging some of these questions back into the light.
Maybe that's why she'd come, in the end. Maybe that's all that was left for them to do.
Her voice was relatively steady as she asked, "And what does that mean?"
