While Kit couldn't say she wasn't surprised by the comment - even John seemed to be - it didn't come entirely unexpectedly. These issues had been hanging between them for the past few days, clouds of dust stirred up from years past, as perhaps they rightly should be; she didn't know how either of them would move on without dragging some of these questions back into the light.
