Then the absurdity of it, and the embarrassment so clearly stamped on her face, started to sink in, and he had no choice but to laugh. Tried not to, knowing it was liable to hack her off, but he couldn't help it: this had to make at least five people who'd got the same idea. And he had to admit, in their places, he might have jumped to the same conclusion a couple of times now.
He put his head down on the bar with a soft thump, shoulders heaving. "Ahh, hell. I give up," he said finally, muffled, making a gesture of surrender with his cigarette. "Might as well just shag the bastard and get it over with..."
He lifted his head, wiping his eyes, and looked at her apologetically, hoping she wouldn't be too angry. "Crowley and I share a two-bedroom suite, luv. We're roommates, more or less. Who is it you've been talking to?"
