Pepper turned her head sharply to the side, her breath coming out in a rush as though she'd been slapped. In a way, she had. One hand instinctively curled into a fist, but she had no use for it.
She felt like she was going to be sick.
Pepper stared at the floor, eyes wide and panicked, but there really wasn't anything to be done about it. He had found out. Of course he'd come looking for her. To talk to her about it, and make her come back. And everyone in this room knows. "Who told you that?" she said quietly, thankful that Adam was between the two of them. He wouldn't let him close, right?
