Pepper could feel her freckled cheeks going pink, and wished she had a hat or something to make it less obvious. "Thanks. Going home for supper. I figured mum would want to see me looking a tad more presentable than I usually am. Otherwise she'll get worried and make a fuss, and..." She paused for a moment, then blurted out, "And I'm really sorry, Adam. I didn't mean to go off at you like that, it just happened, and I didn't want it to get that out of hand, I was confused and - " stop talking so bloody much!
She took a deep breath. There, she had said it. Her mouth shot off like it always did, but she'd gotten it out.
