Setting: The lobby
Summary: The sphinx encounters the TARDIS
Decorating, thought the sphinx, was a tricky business. One had to know what was too much, as well as what was too little. Too little was, for example, that she only had a few arm bones to decorate her lair with, instead of a few whole bodies.
At first she had thought that the arm would be enough. She had gnawed away all the flesh and placed the remains of her dinner on top of a tall pile of crates. Correctly arranged, she had thought, the arm should be just enough to radiate a creepy atmosphere. Alas, she had been wrong. What she needed was more bones, and she was determined to get them.
Apollo had told her not to harm anyone, so human remains might be a bit difficult to attain. It didn’t matter that much, though; she could settle for some animal bones. Sphix had figured that the kitchen would be the best place to find some carcasses. She didn’t know where the kitchen was, but she guessed that she would come across it sooner or later.
The sphinx walked up the stairs to the first floor and found herself in the lobby. She thought she had gone this route before with Apollo, but she hadn’t been paying much attention to her surroundings then, so she might as well have stood in the lobby for the first time. Sphix scratched her ever itching neck and took a look around.
There were some doors there, and there was also -
There was also a box. It was blue and had a light on top of it. A police box.
Her first thought was that they had found her. They were going to arrest her, weren’t they, and she would have to fight, but she couldn’t, because then they would shoot her. She should flee instead, turn into an eagle and fly away, stay an eagle for a while, and she didn’t want that, didn’t want to loose it -
Then her mind caught up and her panic subsided. A police box? In the lobby? The sphinx frowned. Perhaps it was a trap. You started wondering what it was doing here, and then you went closer, and - SNAP! - something nasty happened to you.
It couldn’t be anything too nasty, though, because of that stupid rule against harming people. In fact, it would probably be safe to have a closer look.
Very carefully the sphinx approached the blue box. When she was near enough, she poked it with a finger, ready to leap backwards would the need arise.
